Which type of receiver should I buy?
I have decided on four 205W max in ceiling speakers, 150W max center, right and left speakers, and a wireless subwoofer. So if I get a 7.1 channel 910W AV receiver, will the 910 Watts be split up equally so each speaker gets 130W ? If I get a 7.2 system do I HAVE to hook up two sub woofers?
Speakers are rated for the maximum power they can handle, NOT how much power they draw. Amplifiers are arted for total watts (sometimes) but more properly as the number of watts each channel can deliver. However, you don't need to worry about maximum power unless you plan to turn the volume up really loud. Most of the time with reasonable listening levels you won't be using more than a few (2-10 watts max) on any each channel.
If there is a misbalance between power rating of speakers and an amp (and there almost always is), it's better to have too much power than not enough ... and just don't turn it up all the way.
A 7.2 system, by definition, has 2 subwoofers ... but they can easily be wired in parallel using a "Y" adapter since each has it's own amplifier.
